barty crouch junior is twisted, but there is more to him.

i understand that it's appealing to turn barty into this rebellious, crazy, fucked-up version that he will later become. aren't we missing out on the chance to give barty some kind of character development that connects his later actions to what this character experiences and suffers? for me, it's much more interesting if barty isn't the fucked-up slytherin version of sirius, but deals differently with the challenges presented to him in childhood and adolescence in a way where he initially tries to live up to what his father presumably demands of him. doesn't it have much more potential if the friendship with evan and regulus influences and changes him, perhaps giving him power and influence? we have the chance to tell how barty becomes the death eater we later get to know (and who, in his twisted way and unlike many others, is brilliant). please, give this character a dimension or two

We always talk about how James thinks he is too much and Regulus thinks he’s not enough, but may I propose the opposite? James, who is constantly living for others, afraid that he isn’t good enough for them so he burns himself out trying to be energetic and positive, while there’s Regulus, who is afraid that talking about his emotions and feelings too much will scare people away and will make them realize how different he really is from the rest of them, so he shuts himself out.

Regulus has a fear of being too much, that’s why he is so closed off. James is afraid of not being enough, that’s why he puts himself out there

Okay but Evan with selective mutism, is this a thing people hc? Like as a kid he'd go everywhere with Pandora, who learned how to tell what he wanted to say from the look in his eyes. It got easier as they got older but for years she was the only one who could understand the intricacies of the tiny movements of his face until one day she found some scrawny loud ass boy having a one-sided conversation with Evan and left them to it.

Walburga and Orion realistically never would’ve allowed for either child to live in the shadow of the other. A Black eclipsed by anyone, even another Black, would’ve been a disgrace.

You think they would’ve favoured Regulus if he’d been a weak, blushing and trembling kid hiding behind his brother? No, they simply excelled in different areas.

Sirius was all charm and charisma, knew when to laugh and smile, turned heads upon entering a room, left them wanting more — could’ve been the perfect heir had he only wanted it. Regulus was cold cunning and heartless manipulation, had people fearing and respecting him since he was 12 and loved it. He didn’t have to say a word, by 17 one look from him had people agreeing to anything. He was the perfect heir because he enjoyed the game.

The Blacks were power hungry maniacs, imagine how incredibly fucked Regulus had to be to be their favourite. How deranged did he have to be to be chosen by Voldemort at 16. This man treads the line of irredeemability with a smile

i genuinely ship barty with everyone. i hear "barty x [insert name]" and instantly its canon to me. he is such a fuckboy. no option is too absurd, he can make everyone fall for him. through it all, in reality he's just a lonely boy with no reason to live trying to get all the love he never got as a child. hes precious.

“It’s not that serious” Bartylus, except Barty’s the only one (except for Sirius) who’s seen Regulus openly cry; and Barty, only Reg has.

“It’s just casual” Bartylus, but Barty can’t get over that feeling when he sees Regulus out with someone else, because why is that guy with him for coffee? He doesn’t even know Regulus’ favourite. (He’d tell you it’s black, but Barty knows he really likes a peppermint mocha.)

“We’re just friends” Bartylus, but when Regulus has a nightmare, whose bed does he crawl into, and cuddle up to the inhabitant’s side? Barty’s. And Barty does the same.

“It’s platonic” Bartylus, but Barty swears on his life Regulus had to have actually meant it that time they kissed, drunk at that party. Neither said anything about it after, but Barty just knows. Because he meant it, even if he didn’t tell Reg that.
